The limits of recycling

There are many limits to recycling. People sometime don’t know what can or can not be recycled, (or are just lazy and don’t care) which takes workers hours to sort through it all. And if it isn’t clean it is unmarketable and thrown out. About 14% of what people in Fredericton recycle end up getting thrown out. Much of the recycled waste in Canada gets shipped over seas.

Giving your old jeans to a local thrift shop might make you feel good. But there more likely to be cut into rags or shipped overseas to a market in Kenya or a reprocessing plant in India.

uBut the are loopholes to recycling things that are unrecyclable. Like making things something new (ie kites from Oreo Packages, lamps made from Febreze spray-bottle tops and old CDS) But it takes a lot of time and people don’t want to do things that they think is a time waster.

A lot of things can be recycled but it costs to much so companies would rather throw it out.
