St. Thomas University has an opportunity to become a model green campus that allows students, faculty and staff to practice sustainable living and environmental stewardship.
Who we are
The Communications and Public Policy Senior Seminar is conducting an information and awareness engagement campaign called Green Action to pursue the opportunity of having a model campus. We plan to provide information, engage the campus community and make recommendations about how we can begin to instill environmental stewardship in the life of the campus.
Goals
To conduct an information and engagement campaign to increase awareness about environmental stewardship on the St. Thomas University campus.
To make recommendations to the St. Thomas University Students' Union and St. Thomas University administration about how to create a model campus that both teaches stewardship and allows students to live and learn in an environmentally responsible way.
Stewardship
St. Thomas University was founded on the principle of stewardship. We must continue to move forward as stewards in our communities and as leaders of change and progress. One of the most pressing issues of our time is the threat of environmental degradation and climate change. Here at STU, we have an opportunity to effect real change as leaders in the post-secondary sector. Our Green Action campaign will focus on making a positive impact on our campus community.
Topics to explore
Among the ideas the campaign will explore are composting, waste reduction, community gardens and a clothing exchange.
Our findings
The Green Action campaign will report on the views of the campus community and make recommendations to the President’s Advisory Committee on Campus Environmental Issues.
